Phobos-Grunt - Mission Objectives

  1. Deliver samples of Phobos soil to Earth for scientific research
  2. Complete In-Situ and Remote Science Operations on Phobos including sample analysis
  3. Monitor the atmospheric behavior of Mars including the dynamics of dust storms
  4. Study the radiation environment of Mars as well as Martian plasma and dust
  5. Study the origin of the Martian Moons and their relations to Mars
  6. Study the role of asteroid impacts in the formation of Planets
  7. Search for signatures of past, present or future life
  8. Study the impact of a 3-year interplanetary journey to extremophile microorganisms in a sealed capsule (LIFE)
