Next Soyuz Launch delayed

January 27, 2012

_The Launch of the next manned Space Flight to the International Space Station has to be delayed from the original March 30, 2012 Launch Date because of technical problems with the descent module of the Soyuz Capsule that was supposed to bring the crew of Expedition 31/32 to ISS. The vehicle was set to deliver Joe Acaba and Roscosmos cosmonauts Gennady Padalka and Sergei Revin to ISS for their long duration missions aboard the complex.

_China successfully launches new Weather Satellite

China has orbited another Satellite after making the first Launch of this year just a few days ago on January 9.

A Long March 3A Launch Vehicle lifted off from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center at 0:56 UTC on Friday (8:56 Beijing Time), January 13. According to Chinese Media, the launch was executed as planned and the Payload – a Fengyun Weather Satellite – was delivered to its desired orbit 24 minutes after launch. Fengyun 2F will operate from an orbital position of 112°E once in geosynchronous orbit. The satellite will undergo a short period of checkouts and its orbit will be fine-tuned over a timeframe usually taking several weeks.

MSL makes first and largest Course Correction

January 12, 2012

_The Mars Science Laboratory completed the first and largest Trajectory Correction Maneuver on its way to Mars.
At 23:00 GMT (6pm EST) on Wednesday, the complex Course Correction Sequence began. 8 Thrusters divided into two groups of four engines, made more than 200 firings to achieve the proper trajectory.

China makes first orbital Launch of 2012

January 9, 2012

_China opened the new Spaceflight Year 2012 with the Launch of Ziyuan 3 Remote Sensing Satellite that took place earlier today. A Long March 4B Rocket with the Spacecraft on top lifted of at 3:17 UTC (10:17pm EST on January 8) from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center – according to Chinese Sources. Launch Vehicle performance was nominal and the Payloads were delivered to their desired orbits by the Chinese Booster. This launch marked the first orbital flight of 2012 and is the opening of a busy year in spaceflight as Chinese officials plan to surpass last-year's record launch rate - also including manned flights to Tiangong-1 that are planned later this year.

MSL to conduct Course Correction Maneuver

January 7, 2012

_The Mars Science Laboratory is approaching its first and largest Course Correction on its Trip to the Red Planet. The Maneuver will take place on January 11, 2012 and involve multiple firings of the Spacecraft’s 8 Thrusters over a period of 175 Minutes. This choreographed sequence will begin at 23:00 UTC (6pm EST) and change the vehicle’s velocity by 5.5 Meters per Second (12.3 Miles per Hour).

The first United Launch Alliance Rocket to Launch operations has been mated to its payload after the new-generation military communications satellite was rolled to Launch Complex 37 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.

The Final Week of 2011 aboard ISS

January 3, 2012

The six Astronauts aboard ISS had some quiet time over the holidays and had the opportunity to talk to their loved ones from their home in space. To close-out 2011, more experiments were supported by the crew and the US Astronauts started a long task of outfitting onboard computers with new software.
ISS Conjunction: On January 4, a piece of Space Debris might be coming close to ISS. Flight Controllers are tracking the object.

GRAIL-B enters Lunar Orbit

After GRAIL-A successfully inserted itself into Lunar Orbit on New Year's Eve, GRAIL-B followed on January first to start the next Mission Phase of adjusting the orbits of the spacecraft.
